Newsletter April 30, 2024
As we continue our journey toward the upcoming election, I wanted to share some important updates and insights from recent events and discussions that are crucial not only to our campaign but to our community in the 76th District.
Celebrating Our Primary Victory: A Heartfelt Thank You
I am thrilled to share the wonderful news of our campaign’s tremendous success in the recent primary, where we secured 67% of the vote. This victory is not just mine—it’s ours. It speaks volumes about the trust and belief you have placed in my ability to represent our values and vision for the future. I am deeply grateful for each vote, every volunteer hour, and all the support that has poured in from across the district. This win strengthens our resolve to continue working hard and addressing the issues that matter most to our community. Thank you for standing with me, for your trust, and for your commitment to our shared goals. Together, we will keep striving for progress and positive change in the 76th District.

We are happy to announce the grand opening of the Friends of Liz Bishop campaign office! Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 9th, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The celebration will take place at our new headquarters located at 729 La Salle Street, Ottawa.

Preserving Our Local Heritage: The Starved Rock Renaming Debate
Recently, there has been discussion in Springfield around the proposal to rename Starved Rock, a beloved local landmark known for its rich history and natural beauty. I want to affirm my stance on this matter: our local heritage must be preserved. Starved Rock is not just a tourist destination; it’s a symbol of our community’s history and natural heritage. Renaming it could diminish the cultural significance and historical value that have been integral to our identity for generations. I stand with many of you who have expressed concerns, and I am committed to ensuring our voices are heard in opposition to the renaming proposal.
Addressing Rural Healthcare Challenges
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a presentation by A.J. Querciagrossa and Dawn Trompeter from OSF HealthCare – Illinois Valley, where pressing issues facing rural healthcare today were discussed. It’s clear that our community faces significant healthcare challenges, especially after the heartbreaking loss of two local hospitals. The closure of these facilities has left a void in accessible medical care for many residents. As your representative, I will prioritize healthcare accessibility and will actively explore solutions to ensure that every individual and family in our area has reliable access to medical services. Addressing these healthcare challenges is not just about replacing lost facilities; it’s about building a robust healthcare system that is sustainable and responsive to the needs of our community.
Seeking Interns: Summer Opportunities with Liz Bishop’s Campaign
Do you know a high school or college student looking for summer work that offers valuable political experience? The Friends of Liz Bishop campaign is on the lookout for energetic and dedicated individuals to join our team as interns. This paid internship provides a hands-on opportunity to engage in grassroots efforts, campaign management, and research, all while working closely with the candidate herself.
Interns will participate in various activities such as canvassing, phone banking, and strategizing outreach efforts to effectively convey Liz’s platform. We’re looking for students with a passion for politics, strong organizational skills, and a readiness to learn and contribute to our mission.
This is an excellent opportunity for young individuals to gain real-world experience in a political campaign, make professional connections, and actively contribute to our community’s future. If you or someone you know is ready to make a difference this summer, join us at Friends of Liz Bishop!
